More Great Rebates for BC Consumers: Bathroom Fans
For the last week we’ve been exploring some of the heating rebates available to customers in Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey, and Langley through BC Hydro Power Smart and FortisBC. These rebates pick up where previous rebate programs left off, and many are due to end at the close of March of 2015.
Most of those rebates apply to heating and ventilation changes, but one in particular involves your electrical system instead: a $25 rebate for an ENERGY STAR® bathroom fan. Each homeowner can claim this particular rebate twice, so both the main and the guest bathroom can receive a new fan.
Why Install a Bathroom Exhaust Fan?
Has your bathroom every suffered from a dank, musty smell? How about paint that peels, or cabinets that discolour and warp? The bathroom can be a troublesome area. All that water and warmth in a small area makes it prone to mildew, mold, stale air, bad smells, and poor ventilation. These hazards not only make the bathroom distasteful and embarrassing, but can also damage the pipes, drywall, paint, fixtures, and cabinetry.
A bathroom exhaust fan is a weapon to fight back against humidity. Install one and you’ll find your air quality improves, your fixtures last longer, and your bathroom is more pleasant to be in. This is true even in bathrooms with windows.
A Green Alternative
When you choose an ENERGY STAR® fan, you’re not just making your home environment more pleasant. You’re also doing a favour for the environment. ENERGY STAR® fans are inspected and certified as the most efficient available. That means your energy bill stays low while your bathroom stays pleasant.
The Advantages of Upgrading
If you have an older bathroom fan, you should still consider taking advantage of this rebate offer and upgrading. Your older fan is probably less efficient than a newer ENERGY STAR® model, and that’s costing money every month. Choosing a new fan also gives you an opportunity to upgrade to a quieter, more attractive model.
Claiming Your Rebate
So you’ve decided to take the plunge. First, select a qualifying fan. In addition to choosing an ENERGY STAR® model, choose a fan large enough to service your bathroom and one that matches your decor. Next, have it installed, preferably by a qualified electrician. Then go to FortisBC and fill out the forms on the right to claim your rebate money. Act fast, because these rebates expire at the end of March. Your rebate claim must be postmarked no later than April 30th of this year.
