Quick Tips: Furnace Filters
Here are a few tips that every homeowner can use to maintain clean air in their home.
Type Of Filters
- Fiberglass Furnace Filters – Although the most cost efficient at around $5.00 we do not recommend using fiberglass filters in your home. They don’t trap nearly enough dust and dirt compared to the pleated paper filter.
- Pleated Furnace Filters – These are the most popular of all the types of furnace filters available. They are disposable and made of a paper/polyester blend material. On average they cost about $40 and work well for up to 6 months.
- Washable Furnace Filters – These trap up to 95% of dust and dirt. They are washable and save money over disposable filters. We recommend using these filters in your home and carry most sizes in stock or we can order for you. Costing between $100-$150 they are the best long term solution for a furnace.
- Electrostatic Furnace Filters – This type of filter create a static charge when air goes through it. This causes the dust to stick to them and hold it in until you wash the dirt and dust away. Both the disposable paper style filters and washable are available in electrostatic.
Filter Sizes
Every furnace is different and so are the filter sizes. Most common sizes are 14”x25”, 16”x20”, 16”x25”, 20”x 25”, and 25”x25 but also come in other sizes too. To check the exact size you need, remove the old filter inside your furnace. The dimensions will be marked along the edge of the filter.
